Concert Songs of 19th Century Cuba and Mexico
Featuring…
Parsifal Islas, baritone
Lukas Larisch, pianist

Wednesday, April 26
7:00 p.m.
Open Area, Level 4, Student Center

Join us for a very special evening of classical concert songs from 19th Century Cuba and Mexico.

The concert songs, from Jorge del Moral and Luis Jorda, are fine examples of the musical talent that blossomed in Latin American during the 19th century. They are reflections of the conformity of dreams about a European ideal, but they also reflect the emotion of a young generation enchanted with artistic romanticism. The work of early 20th century composers, such as Manuel M. Ponce and Ernesto Lecuona, takes this tradition and develops its own style reflecting the identities of Mexico and Cuba, respectively. All of these songs are examples of great talent and show the remarkable fusion of poetry and music.

This event is performed by members of the Graduate Association of Musicians and sponsored by Graduate Events and Recreation.
