Dear KAUST Community,
I am pleased to share with you the latest SDG Highlight Report, pertaining to our activities for 2023. The report provides a glimpse into the diverse and impactful actions we have undertaken to advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to affect sound environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices.
In these pages, you will find not just a recount of our efforts, but a narrative that weaves together the strategic initiatives under the ‘Accelerating Impact’ strategy with our ongoing commitment to sustainability. From the thriving KAUST Coral Restoration Initiative to our groundbreaking climate action technologies like ClimateCrete, each project is a testament to our dedication to making a meaningful impact both locally and globally.
The release of our new Sustainability Policy and the successful hosting of the Global Sustainability Development Conference are milestones that mark our progress in integrating sustainability into every facet of our operations and engagements.
As we continue to align our work with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 and global sustainability frameworks, I encourage each of you to explore this report. It reflects our shared dedication to harnessing science and technology to serve society. Let it serve as a reminder of our collective potential to implement change and drive a sustainable future. When we hosted the Global Sustainable Development Congress last year, I enjoined institutions of higher learning throughout the world to stop waiting for the cavalry to show up because “we are the cavalry!” This report clearly shows that KAUST is taking this mantra to heart.
