Microsoft Windows 8.1 will no longer be supported with any future updates and security patches beyond January 10, 2023. Learn more here. To prepare for this change, IT is requesting you to proceed with upgrading your devices to Windows 10 or Windows 11. To know if your device is eligible, please open a ticket with the IT Service Desk via email or by phone (808-0910); if your device is due, we will reach out to you soon.
Devices that cannot be upgraded to Windows 10 or 11 due to hardware limitations must be replaced prior to January 2023. After the cut-off date, Windows 8.1 machines will no longer be allowed to access the KAUST network to protect it from any security vulnerabilities or software bugs.
To check your Windows version*, you can use this keyboard shortcut:
Step 1: ‘cmd’ button (⌘)/Windows button + ‘R’ button
Step 2: In the Run Window, type: winver
Step 3: Windows version will display on screen
