How are you going to make the most of your time at WEP 2019? WEP is a two-week festival of science with a first week focus on science and the environment and a second week focus on the humanities. Connect, be surprised and be enriched.

Celebrate the opening of WEP

WEP will kick off on Sunday, January 13 with an opening keynote lecture by Michael Young, Nobel laureate in physiology or medicine, followed by a cocktail reception and a unique creative advertising program The Night of the Ad Eaters ® (registration required).

Experience Times Square in the evening

WEP is transforming Discovery Square into Times Square— one of the world’s most popular tourist attractions—and we will re-create its vibrant atmosphere at KAUST. Times Square will be the core of the evening events during WEP and will feature storytelling sessions, board games, drum shows, painting, musical events and food and snacks. There will be something for everyone!

Attend exciting keynote lectures and lectures

Auditorium (Building 20)
Over 70 international and national experts and leaders in their fields will discuss topics related to this year’s theme “TIME.” Beat the clock and register on time to your favorite keynote lectures and lectures.

Connecting arts, science and technology at the Exhibits Center

University Library
The University Library will be the space for creativity and reflection. Experience the “TIME & THE UNIVERSE” area with the CERN LHC Tunnel; have fun and practice your driving skills at the VR lounge experience; and browse through the cultural exhibitions, the KAUST Research ePoster competition and the undergraduate ePoster competition.

Benefit from the WEP Hub

Lobby (Building 20)
Experience WEP on social media and don’t miss our competition for a chance to win a signed book by some of our world-renowned speakers like Dava Sobel. The WEP HUB will accommodate all your #WEP2019 stories, KAUST live interviews and the KAUST social media booth. Don’t miss it!

Attend the WEP Film Festival

Festivalgoers, watch our “TIME” film selection of 35 movies and documentaries. Take part in the post-film discussions led by experts and scientists, such as film producer Todd Nimsand Martin Van Kranendonk, the scientist behind the film “The Story of Earth.” Every day we’ll be screening movies for everyone!

Break out of the Escape Room

WEP brings to KAUST the most exciting escape room experience. During this adventure, your team will enter “the bridge,” which contains a jumble of items from all across time and space, and will collect hits to find the missing scientist before the bridge collapses! How long will it take you to escape?

Race against time with McLaren

Get your one-day pass on Monday, January 21 for a chance to win a cap signed by a McLaren formula driver Lando Norris. Learn more about the science behind McLaren and their collaboration with KAUST during a panel discussion and ask your questions at the evening keynote lecture to Lando Norris and McLaren’s Chief Operating Officer Jonathan Neale.

Visit the Science Fair

On Monday, January 21, we’re celebrating science at KAUST. Every year during WEP, the Science Fair brings technology and science to the KAUST community and local schools. Take a tour and vote for your favorite booth!

Final Gala and Award Ceremony

Time to close WEP. Join us for the Final Gala, the award ceremony and enter a journey back to the 18th century with “Opera in Roma” orchestra, where internationally renowned soloists will create a unique atmosphere for the program’s final night.
