We challenge you to come up with creative ways to incorporate the Beacon into your photos—wherever you happen to be in the world. The photo shown here was submitted in 2018 by KAUST Ph.D. graduate Nikolaos Zarokanellos and KAUST Professor Panagiotis Kalnis, who read The Beacon on Uhuru Peak of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.

Our multicultural KAUST community loves to travel and spread the word about the science and unique environment at KAUST. On campus, the Beacon is a landmark symbolizing the University’s global influence.

To celebrate the spirit of knowledge sharing, we ask you to take a photograph of The Beacon magazine or a replica of the KAUST Beacon (it can be a picture, a drawing or a souvenir from Matjar) in a context special to you while you travel the world.

The photos that get the most likes and shares will be featured in upcoming issues of The Beacon magazine in the “Where do you read The Beacon?” section; on The Lens; and on KAUST social media accounts like the KAUST official Instagram account.

    How to submit your photos:

    • STEP 1: Take a photo with The Beacon magazine or a Beacon replica around the world.
    • STEP 2: Post your Beacon photo on your personal Instagram account using the hashtag #KAUSTBEACON, or email your photos to The Beacon magazine editor Caitlin Clark at caitlin.clark@kaust.edu.sa.
    • STEP 3: Follow the Beacon’s journey and other KAUST community Beacon adventures on Instagram and in upcoming issues of The Beacon.

    Thank you for your submissions!
