Strategic Management Office at KAUST

As communicated in our new KAUST Strategy, a Strategic Management Office (SMO) will be established to support the monitoring and measurement of the progress of our new strategy. 

The Strategic Management Office Director will report to the President and work with all responsible executives across the University to support the implementation of a planning and reporting framework that integrates accountability for fulfilling our strategy and operating plan deliverables.

In summary, the key responsibilities of the position are: 

Coordinating, consolidating and robustly monitoring the strategy implementation through the University-wide strategy and planning processes.

Leading the SMO team and working with all responsible executivesto ensure effective follow-up and updates to the operationalizing, translation, and delivery of the strategy across functions.

Developing effective methods and processes for monitoring and evaluating institutional performance that can be presented to the Board and its committees.

Reporting and communicating strategy implementation progress to ensure we are accountable, transparent, and aware of our progress towards strategic ambitions.

I am pleased to advise that Barry Hogan has been appointed the new KAUST Strategic Management Office (SMO) director.

Barry brings his deep organizational knowledge to this role, which he has developed over the last ten years and extensive experience in organizational management and strategic planning within higher education and private sectors. Having worked with Barry before, I am pleased to share that he has well-developed leadership skills, solid strategic and planning abilities, and emotional and cultural intelligence.
