World Water Day is held annually on March 22 as means of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of water resources. On this day, people all around the world participate in awareness-raising celebrations and events about water conservation and management, and KAUST is no different.

Each year, World Water Day highlights a specific aspect of water; the Theme for the year 2017 is “Wastewater”. According to the United Nations, “globally, over 80% of the wastewater generated by society flows back into the ecosystem without being treated or reused.” At KAUST, we are making a difference, last year alone, we reused more than 90% of our treated wastewater for landscape irrigation.

Let’s make every day at KAUST World Water Day by using water wisely.
