The Solar Revolution by Professor Karl Leo
Monday, January 20
7:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Auditorium (building 20)

Recently appointed Director of the Solar and Photovoltaics Engineering Research Center, Professor Karl Leo, brings a wealth of research and industry experience to the Division of Physical Sciences and Engineering at KAUST. Professor Leo is a widely published scientist with over 440-refereed publications, and approximately 50 patent associations.

About the lecture:
The modern lifestyle that developed within the past decades is mainly based on fossil energy reserves. These reserves take hundreds of millions of years to form. Due to climate change and resource depletion, mankind must transition to renewable energy sources.
The potential of solar energy is considered to be above the alternatives and more than adequate to support the world’s needs. In his talk, Professor Leo will discuss the reasons that the most effective manner to utilize solar potential is through photovoltaics – a technology that has made substantial progress in recent years and has recently reached the point in which subsidy-free applications have become appealing.
