Guided Bird Walks in October

Health, Safety and Environment are offering two guided bird walks for October. This is one of the best months to get to know the birds of KAUST because the temperatures are a little cooler but the autumn migration is still very active.

The first walk, at South Beach, will make full use of the new bird hide. Many water birds gather on the mudflats feeding on invertebrates, From the hide excellent views of the birds may be obtained in the early morning. Upwards of 30 species of wader, heron or gull should be seen. We will meet at the ‘tent’ car park at 6:15 a.m. on Friday, October 12. The car park is located about 200 metres before the entrance to the community beach. This walk is suitable for adults and patient children!

On Monday October 14 a Junior Walk will be at the Safaa Golf Club. We will meet in the reception area at 5:15 p.m. and the walk will last about an hour. We will use the buggies to explore the bird life around the golf club. Parents are welcome to accompany their children. The walk is aimed at children between the ages of 7 and 12 years.

For both walks binoculars are available for the use of participants.

An additional sided walk around the Island Mangrove area is being held on October 20 at 6:30 a.m. in conjunction with the Fall Enrichment Program. For this walk please sign up using the FEP calendar which is due out soon.
