What is Earth Day?
Earth Day is an annual event celebrated worldwide on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection.
It was first celebrated in the United States in 1970, when millions of people took to the streets to protest against the negative environmental impacts of 150 years of industrial development.
In 1990 Earth Day went global, mobilizing 200 million people in 141 countries and lifting environmental issues onto the world stage. It helped pave the way for the 1992 United Nations Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
