Be one of the first 50 community members to participate in the Eco-Cart Rental pilot program. This pilot program, sponsored by the KAUST Sustainability Committee, is seeking to introduce a green and safe transportation option for our community this spring. The first 50 registrants will receive their eco-cart at the end of April.
Available in five colors, these eco-carts will cost 500 SAR per month, are street legal and fitted with four seat belts. They also include a flip-up back seat that can accommodate cargo, bags of groceries (in reusable bags, not plastic), school equipment, sporting equipment, etc.
Registration will open at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 1 via the Transportation Eco-Cart website with carts assigned on a first come, first served basis. Please note there are only ten carts of each color available so ensure you prioritize your color preference when you register.

A brilliant idea and scheme!
Glad to see this initiative materialized. Thank you Sustainability Committee. Is it also available for Contractor’s family residing in KAUST?
Dear Salah
Thank you for your support of this great initiative. At this time this pilot program is on offer to KAUST personnel only although you may be able to arrange a private rental via Luxury Carts, Jeddah who will have an office and workshop here at KAUST, in the Transportation office, shortly. Watch out for an announcement re: contact details.

Are these carts suitable for having newborns onboard?
Dear Mohamed
Please refer to the KAUST Traffic Policy regarding the transportation of children on campus. If you follow the further details link on this announcement to the Eco-Cart website you can connect to the entire policy.

It only mentions that kids should be in appropriate car seat and wearing seat belts.
Dear Mohamed
The Traffic policy does state that the child seat must be secured in the back seat of the vehicle. It is possible to fit a child seat that connects via the seat belt system but we cannot recommend either way, that decision is up to you.

Will they be allowed to park in the electric vehicles section? It would be difficult for students to recharge them otherwise…
It is said in the link:
“For further information please email eco-cart@kaust.edu.sa”
I already sent email, but it bounces back, seems that the email address is not working. Please advice

Ok, I get the e-mail. Thank you.
Hello ! I am wondering where can we wash our carts. I tried once the regular car wash at the gas station and they refused washing my cart. You now have more than 40 carts inside KAUST and we need a place to wash our carts. Thanks in advance.
Hi Ihab
I had my golf cart cleaned at the gas station car wash on Sunday evening. It cannot go through the car wash, but they will handwash like the do with a Scooter.
They did a really good job, and my golf cart is sparkling like new again. I would definitely try again.
