Today there’s a great lineup of events for you to attend and enjoy!

Watch out for your chance to win: At some of our events you will have the opportunity to win a one-of-a-kind paper model bird from our visiting Argentinia artists Guardabosques or a prototype birdhouse from our Visual computing team and FalconViz.

Lunchtime Concert with the Amici Quartet
1:00 – 2:00 p.m, Auditorium (building 20)

The Amici Quartet will conclude their series of concerts for this fall with a third performance exploring music for string quartets. A light snack will be provided.

WEP 2015 Unveiling event
3:30 – 4:00 p.m, Auditorium (building 20)

The Winter Enrichment Program is our flagship event. Join us as we unveil the exciting events, lectures and workshops we’ll be bringing you this coming January.

This event is mandatory for all students.

Modern Math in Medieval Islamic Architecture
4:00 – 5:00 p.m, Auditorium (building 20)

Eminent physicist, researcher and author Dr. Peter J. Lu will take you on an enlightening look at the theory and practice behind the creation of the beautiful and complex geometric star-and-polygon decorative patterns found in medieval Islamic architecture and tiling.

This event is mandatory for all students.

Science to Watch: Up (2009)
6:30 – 8:45 p.m, Visualization Core Lab, Al-Khawarizimi (building 1)

In this acclaimed Disney Pixar animated film, 78-year-old Carl ties thousands of balloons to his home and sets out to fulfill his lifelong dream to see the wilds of South America. Little does he know a young wilderness explorer named Russell (Jordan Nagai) has stowed away onboard.

Discussion by Dr. Kimberly Smith, Department of Biological Sciences, University of Arkansas.

Registration for this event is not necessary, but attendance will be limited to the first 60 people who arrive.
