After school programming delivered from November 2022 to January 2023 in collaboration with The KAUST Academy
Location: Building 9, Campus

Python is the fastest-growing programming language in the world, due to its usefulness in the world of data science.  As the fields of machine learning, data modeling and AI grow, so does the demand for Python-related skills.

The Office of the Provost KEY team and The KAUST Academy are working with TKS to develop a pathway for school students to develop skills in Python Coding and Artificial Intelligence.  We are excited to announce the launch of the first pilot course – Beginners Python Coding, for students in Grades 9 to 12.

This course requires no prior Python programming knowledge (although some knowledge of visual programming languages, such as Scratch, will be beneficial).  The course will cover important concepts of programming, and will use coding examples and visual exercises to bring the concepts to life.  Weekly topics are:

  • Variables and operations in programming (Python)
  • Python containers
  • Control flow in Python
  • Loops and Functions
  • NumPy

Once students have learnt the basic concepts, they will work on a project to put their new skills into practice to create games.

When

There will be two sessions per week – on Saturday mornings and Tuesday afternoons.  The program  will run from Saturday, November 19, 2022 to Tuesday, January 31, 2023 (with a break on 20/24 December and 27/31 December) – a total of 18 hours of learning.

Fee

For this first pilot program, the fee will be 50% discounted – SAR 720 (SAR 40 per session) + VAT
