After a very successful TEDx inaugural showcase, “The Faces of KAUST Resilience – a Visual Poem in 67 Stanzas” featuring CinQ creative, Reece Lennon, has now moved from the B20 foyer to the University Library.

In the first few weeks of lockdown on the KAUST campus, Reece volunteered his time to capture portraits of families on their front steps, from a safe distance. In a period when people were isolated, deprived of certainty and social outlets, the pictures resulted in 67 portraits of resilience.

Conceived as an ode to KAUSTians, the art installation uses the iconography of plants breaking through concrete to speak of the indomitable human spirit, of tenacity and perseverance.

About the Artist

Reece is an Education Technology Specialist. He has been at KAUST for nearly 10 years with his wife and two daughters.  As a self-described extroverted introvert, he enjoys photography because it means he gets to be around people, but never getting too close and never for too long.  When he’s not working, taking photos or at the golf course, he loves traveling with his family, eating, and hanging out with his dog.

About the Office of the Arts

Under the umbrella of Academic Affairs, the Office of the Arts consists of a visual and performing arts team with a mission to promote art, science and culture in KAUST, the Kingdom, and in the wider global context.
