Join us at the 4th Regional Mate Rov Competition

Date: Friday, April 17
Time: 8:00 a.m.– 4:30 p.m.
Location: TKS Garden Campus Pool

What is the MATE ROV Competition?

MATE ROV is an internationally recognized underwater robotics program that brings students  together around marine science, robotics, conservation, and restoration. Student teams design, build, and pilot their own Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) to complete real-world underwater missions; the same kinds of challenges faced by professionals in marine science, offshore energy, and ocean exploration.

Our students are not just learning STEM,  they are living it. Guided by mentors and volunteers from the KAUST community, they have spent months collaborating, troubleshooting, and refining their robots. The Regional Competition is their moment to demonstrate everything they have built, not only the ROV itself, but their confidence, creativity, and drive.

This year, Middle School and High School students are competing in two categories:

  • Rangers: Entry-level missions focused on foundational ROV design and operation.
  • Navigators: Intermediate missions require greater technical precision and creative engineering solutions. In this category, the winner of the Regional Competition will go on to represent KAUST at the MATE ROV World Championship in Canada in June 2026!

Come cheer them on, celebrate their achievements, and witness the next generation of engineers and ocean innovators develop.

We hope to see you there!
