Tips for staying healthy during Ramadan

Dear KAUST community,

KMC wishes the KAUST Muslim community a blessed month of Ramadan. As the month approaches, we would like to remind you of the following tips for a healthy fast:

  1. Drink adequate water and fluids during fast break periods
  2. Break your fast with a balanced diet that has elements from all the food groups
  3. Avoid deep-fried, high-sugar and high-fat foods
  4. Adopt healthy cooking methods like grilling, shallow frying or baking
  5. Speak to your doctor about fasting if you are diabetic, hypertensive or have a chronic illness
  6. Speak with your obstetrician if you are pregnant or breastfeeding to see if you can fast
  7. Quit smoking and speak to your family doctor about additional support to help maintain it
  8. Seek medical advice on whether it is safe to continue fasting if you fall sick during Ramadan
