Second Sunset Concert a Success

A couple of hundred people gathered in the University Library last night at 5:30 p.m. to listen to an eclectic and elegant half hour concert put on by Wendy Keyes and the Office of the Arts.

It opened with Suzanne Seldess and Wendy and David Keyes playing Mozart’s Trio in E-flat Major, “Kegelstatt,” followed by Jessica Bouwmeester and Yue Guan playing Bach’s Air on the G String. Gustavo Quino Quispe and Jeremy Occhipinti then offered up a gentle version of 60’s soul singer Ben E. King’s famous “Stand by Me.”

Yi Yu and Yuhong Kuang played an elegaic “Nocturne of a Fishing Boat,” a peacefully appropriate choice as the audience looked out over the harbor sunset. The House of Song, a vocal quartet featuring Andi Anderson, Corry Moriarty, Nathan Collier, and David Keyes performed a prayerful “Hamdulillah” followed seamlessly by Rogers and Hammerstein’s “If I Loved You” which closed the all-too-short program.

For those of you who missed it, mark your calendars now for the next Sunset Concert coming on April 28 at 5:30 p.m. See last night’s fascinating program notes here.

Finally, we love your children and we love our children. Please keep in mind that concert etiquette asks that when your youngster prefers chattering, crying, or practicing their jitterbug during a performance, you excuse your child from the concert space out of respect for the performers and to allow other concert-goers to enjoy the music. Thank you.
