KAUST is committed to advancing research commercialization and driving innovation. To support this vision, the Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship (TIE) program is launching the TIE Certificate, a unique opportunity for KAUST master’s and Ph.D. students across all disciplines. This initiative will equip participants with the tools and skills to transform cutting-edge research into impactful technologies and viable business ventures.
The TIE Certificate addresses the critical need for research commercialization by empowering KAUST students to bridge the gap between academic research and market-ready solutions. It also fosters entrepreneurship on campus by equipping participants with the knowledge and tools to develop sustainable business ventures, aligning with KAUST’s vision of driving economic growth and innovation.
This program integrates technology readiness level (TRL) and entrepreneurship readiness level (ERL), preparing students to navigate the complexities of innovation and commercialization effectively.
TIE Certificate highlights: The TIE Certificate has two key components:
1. Innovation Navigation: From Idea to Impact (TIE 231)
This three-credit-hour course provides a structured and practical overview of the entrepreneurial journey, enabling participants to:
- Explore methods for refining raw ideas, analyzing market potential and aligning innovative solutions with real-world challenges.
- Gain practical skills in crafting business models, building prototypes and creating actionable go-to-market plans.
- Master techniques for overcoming entrepreneurial obstacles, scaling innovations and measuring the social and economic impact of ventures.
2. Prototyping Bootcamp
A six-week, hands-on experience (totaling nine hours) designed to:
- Teach prototyping basics, including 3D printing, laser cutting and the design process.
- Equip students with the skills to independently create and test prototypes quickly and effectively.
Upon successful completion of the TIE 231 course and the prototyping bootcamp, participants will receive a TIE Certificate, recognizing their ability to transform ideas into innovations.
