KAUST Highway Exit has Changed

Last weekend, the Qadimah bridge exit leading to KAUST from Madinah Highway (KSA Route 5) was closed. KAUST communicated with the Ministry of Transportation to temporarily re-open the roadway, but the exit will have to be closed again for construction.

Beginning Friday, July 11:

  • The existing exit ramp to KAUST from Madinah Highway will be closed
  • A new exit loop after the bridge will open permanently with a KAUST sign and lights so that the new exit will be highly visible
  • A second new loop will open for vehicles heading to Rabigh City

This was very confusing when I was driving back around 4am last Friday. I am fairly certain the “old” KAUST exist was blocked and I didn’t know about the new one so I went very slow in the hope that an alternative exit was provided!! I was dreading I would have had to drive all the way to the economic city to make a U-turn.

FLASHING lights should be provided in the night to guide drivers otherwise it’s quite unsafe

Until yesterday it was open and construction not yet finished

The entrance from Madinah Highway to KAUST is crazy. There is no actually road and no signs to get to KAUST. Last two weeks I needed at least 15 mins to figure out a way to get into KAUST and ended up driving on unpaved road and damaged my car. This is really unsafe. I do not know who to talk to about this.

I meant the entrance from Madinah Highway to KAUST comng from Rabigh. Also coming from Jeddah the old exit is now open and does not lead to KAUST anymore. The sign at the exit should be changed.

Same experience as Ihab and it is very daunting when you are driving back to KAUST in the dark. Please look ainto this issue.
