As the weather cools, the number of mosquitoes and flies increases. In order to control the number of insects throughout the KAUST community, the Pest Control Department is finding and treating breeding sites, increasing the amount of ultra-low volume spraying and installing additional fly and mosquito traps.
The ultra-low volume chemicals used here at KAUST are all approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as being suitable for use in residential areas. All ultra-low volume spraying will take place during early morning hours so as not to disturb the community.
Mosquitoes need stagnant water to breed and the KAUST Community can help reduce the mosquito population by removing sources of stagnant water from backyards. Stagnant water can easily collect in basins or buckets from the irrigation system over-spray.
