In celebration of Earth Day at KAUST, the Facilities Management-Central Services Department is partnering with the Jeddah-based artist Meedo Creisat to showcase some of his waste to artwork.
Some of our daily waste items have the potential to become an art piece on a wall instead of ending in a trash bin if one is creative enough. The “Waste to Art” Exhibition demonstrates that some of our daily throw-away materials can be transformed into playful, meaningful, and thought-provoking objects. Come and explore a creative approach to resource circularity and recycling.
Exhibition location: Campus Library – Sea View
Date: April 24 and April 25
About the Artist: Meedo Creisat focused on projects that reflect his love of history and passion for environmental sustainability. Creisat calls his work ‘Meedo Redo’ and the technique is incredibly fascinating, as textures and patterns are built up by layering plastic strips and smashed cans and patches on top of each other. Up close, the artworks have a highly abstract and often linear or striped look. Once you step back, the full portrait image begins to emerge.
A recycling enthusiast, Creisat spends a considerable amount of time collecting his materials, frequently searching the streets of Jeddah for discarded pallets, tin and plastic materials.
Creisat has won many achievements awards for his work including the Saudi Art and culture and the Saudi environmental society, with special mention in the Arab news and many more.
