Breast Cancer Screenings at KAUST Health

Breast cancer remains the most common cancer found in women worldwide. Every October, organizations around the globe unite for a common cause – Breast Cancer Awareness. Early detection is key to increasing survival rates, and to support early detection, KAUST Health is promoting screenings to eligible community members this October.

Did you know

  • Five- and ten-year survival rates exceed 90 % and 85%, respectively, with early-stage cancer.
  • Breast cancer incidence is steadily increasing since 2010, likely due to excess body weight, inactivity, and birth trends.
  • Early-stage cancers often do not present or cause signs or symptoms, which is why screening is important
  • Breast cancer mortality has decreased by 40% over the past few decades because of early detection, increased awareness and improved treatment.
  • Mammography is a type of X-ray that is less harmful than the X-rays taken at the dentist, and it is equal to the amount of radiation emitted from the TV for a month.

Eligibility for screening

  • All women aged 40 and over who have not been screened in the last one to two years.
  • All women aged 30 and over with a family history, a sibling or mother, who has had breast cancer and have not been screened in the last 1 year.

If any follow-up tests or treatment is required, a valid health insurance policy will be applied.
