Appropriate use of Library E-resources

Dear University Library users,

Many publishers, including the American Chemical Society (ACS), have blocked our online access to their publications, due to excessive downloading or unauthorized usage of their content from our campus. These incidents have taken place many times recently.

What is excessive downloading?

Generally, it is systematic downloading that exceeds the number of articles or chapters and the speed of downloading, which is unexpected from a typical search. It is usually the result of a user, or users, who are automatically or intentionally, downloading numerous articles from one or more e-journals or e-books.

It is important for the Library users to strictly abide by the Library’s e-resources usage policy and stay away from excessive downloading of any nature, as it takes time to negotiate and recover access with electronic publishers. Loss of access affects everyone in our community and continual violations jeopardize long-term access to the valuable resources.
