Dear KAUST Community,
I wanted to update you on the status of the power outage that occurred yesterday. As you know, power was restored at approximately 8:00 p.m. after our utility provider repaired damaged overhead power lines, which cut power to the entire campus.
After power was restored, our facilities team initiated a process to return power across KAUST with safety as a primary concern. This morning I met with teams across campus and the community to debrief on where we stand and lessons learned. Operations are back to normal across most of the campus and community. All facilities and laboratories continue to be monitored to assure safe and normal operations, and the Core Labs will remain closed until Sunday to ensure a smooth restart.
I am very pleased with the response by our teams. A special thank you to our facilities team who were very effective in triggering emergency power supplies while also proactively engaging with the utility provider as repairs were being completed.
Additionally, I would like to thank you for supporting each other as we worked on restoring power. I realize that during times like these, quickly responding to the emergency combined with strong community spirit are essential to our resilience and success.
