Although it is not endorsed by KAUST or official in any way, there is a very well-written piece on visiting our neighbors in Thuwal here. Remember when visiting Thuwal to dress and behave discreetly (men and women) and you will receive a typically warm Saudi welcome. Thank you to our community members for sharing the fruits of their adventurousness.

Wonderful to see this published to a wider audience. (the Thuwal page and the wiki in general)
I’m not sure why, but twice this academic year groups of residents have asked for a trial bus service into Thuwal. Both attempts (once by community members, once by GSA) have been denied. Perhaps it’s worry over complicated town-gown relationships, or the significant differences in culture between KAUST and Thuwal, but it would be nice to keep this conversation going and find a way to better link KAUST with it’s host community. Many of us want to feel more a part of this country, to learn and respect its culture and live and walk its streets.
A once a week bus into Thuwal on Thursdays, with a stop at the market area and a stop at the Corniche (fish restaurant), perhaps once an hour from 5-10pm, would enable people to get out, have some new food, shop a bit, and easily reutrn to KAUST. Transportation services in November has said they would support this type of service.
Dear Eric,
Thanks for your comment. We will ensure that it gets to the appropriate people in F&C/Transportation.
