Cyclist access through main gates — eligibility conditions and clarifications

Further to the announcement of April 19, 2026, and in response to questions received from the community regarding eligibility, the Government Affairs & Security Department — in collaboration with HSE and C&C — is republishing the access conditions with additional clarification on who may use this service.

Eligibility: This service is available to KAUST community members aged 18 and above, using registered bicycles only. Other mobility devices — including electric and kick scooters, e-bikes, skateboards, and similar — are not permitted through external gates.

Access conditions: Eligible cyclists may exit and re-enter the campus under the following conditions:

  • Gate 3 is designated for all individual and group cyclist movements. (Exceptional use of Security Gate 1 by groups is possible with prior approval by contacting ask.security@kaust.edu.sa at least 24 hours in advance.)
  • Bicycles must be registered with Security, fitted with a security tag, and verified upon re-entry. To register a bicycle, visit the ID Office.
  • Cyclists must use the marked lanes at the gate.
  • Cyclists must dismount and walk their bicycles when passing through the security checkpoint.
  • Access is limited to Gate 3 daily operating hours (05:00 – 22:00).
  • Cyclists must adhere to all safety requirements as specified in the KAUST Road Safety Code, including helmets and front/rear lights.

If you need more information or support, please contact Security at ask.security@kaust.edu.sa.

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our community safe.

Good news, after so many years, but still not enough!
Gate 3 only, no other form of mobility allowed… with the opening of the military compound to KAUST employee, this will have to change.
