KAUST Open Gardens Day

The KAUST Garden Society is pleased to announce the fourth KAUST Open Garden Day on Saturday, February 22 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. It will offer the opportunity to visit a selection of private gardens in the Gardens area and on the Island that may inspire you for your backyard, patio, or balcony.

They provide a good mix of different approaches to landscaping, types of vegetation, and maintenance. Some of the owners will be present to explain the plants and how to care for them. This year, we have also included the Community Garden at Oasis, which offers plots for growing vegetables and/or flowers.

Please note that access to gardens will be through the signposted side-gates.

Villa G-1041 – Nivedita Salode

A family effort has turned a green lawn into a healthy vegetable garden with many kinds of vegetables and fruit bearing plants. A great example of what can be done with the KAUST soil!

Villa G-1545 – Caterina Carna

A densely vegetated front yard promises surprises in the back yard.

Villa G-1368 – John Brown

A very good example of how to make a green oasis with healthy plants in a limited amount of space. The lemon tree is probably one of the biggest on campus, and this place is very popular with birds.

The Community Garden – behind Oasis Apartments

The Community Garden is a place where community members can grow their own flowers/produce, meet up with other gardeners from the community to share ideas and experiences, and take some time out to ‘get back to nature.

Shaded plots are available (for a minimal rent) to grow vegetables and flowers. Please contact,  community.development@kaust.edu.sa for more details.

Villa I-5630 – Smart House
A minimalistic garden for a house with a modern architectural look.

Villa I-5631 – Frans van Buchem
A mature garden with different types of trees (Erythrina, Acacia, Parkinsonia and Tamarind) and Palms (the striking features are the Royal Palms), flowering bushes and succulents.

Villa I-5750 – Marie Tegner
A shady backyard garden full of Bougainvillea, a Desert Rose collection and inviting seating arrangements with a wonderful sea-view.

Villa I-5739 – Valerio Orlando
A spacious backyard garden with individual Cycas and trees set off against the well-maintained lawn, and two welcoming Desert Roses in the front garden.

Villa I-5730 – Arnab Pain
A remarkably colorful garden with Sunflowers in different colors, a range of vegetables and fruit trees which do well due to the good use of fertilizers and soil improvements.

Villa I-539M – Management Guest Villa
A beautiful, landscaped front and backyard garden with shaded areas provided by groups of mature Date Palms and Coconut Palms, and a swimming pool with a sea view.
