IT Mobile and TV Store

Dear colleagues,

The Information Technology Department is pleased to announce the official opening of the IT Mobile and TV store, located on the Discovery Walk adjacent to Al-Kindi (bldg. 5).

STC, MOBILY and Selevision now have a permanent store offering the following services:

  • SIM card purchase
  • SIM service requests and changes
  • Ownership transfers
  • Routers and USB connect device purchase
  • Phone device purchase
  • Satellite TV channel subscription and payment
  • Televisions and set top boxes (Selevision).

Fingerprints are now being requested by the government for all personal mobile lines. Only personally obtained SIM cards from STC and Mobily require a fingerprint. The IT Department has worked closely with our service providers to offer this service at the IT Mobile & TV store as well.

Please note:you do not need to provide a fingerprint for any KAUST issue business or personal mobile lines (SIM cards) (post-paid or pre-paid). Zain mobile SIM card owners will have to go to Jeddah to complete the fingerprinting requirement.

The current deadlines for private mobile lines (SIM cards) requiring fingerprints:

  • Pre-paid lines (SIM cards): End of May 2016
  • Post-paid lines (SIM cards): Mid-August 2016

What are the opening hours of the store?

Hello,

The operating hours aren’t fixed yet. I encourage you to call up before visiting the respective companies.

Please note that these are private companies. However we are applying gentle pressure to ensure that soon, they start manning the store on regular hours.

I have a private pre-paid SIM card that is neither Mobily nor STC, it is called Lebara. Any representation for them here and where shall I provide my fingerprint?

I went to Mobily today for providing the fingerprint but the employee told me that he will busy with auditing the inventory for almost a month !! Would it be possible to ask the provider to resolve this by dedicating specific hours to customer service.

Shadi: At present only STC and Mobily will have a presence at KAUST.

Othman: A new Mobily Agent will start work tomorrow. Fingerprinting will be available tomorrow as well.

It is best to call the agent line, before visiting the store.

FYI I also Stopped by today for 3rd time in last week due to all of the announcements about fingerprinting being available. As was the case with my previous two visits, the representative simply said “come back in a month”. Perhaps we should just tell people it will be available in June and that would eliminate the confusion…
