The Graduate Student Council, in collaboration with IBM, invites graduate students to an interactive online workshop: “Code Less, Discover More with IBM AI Agent: From Research Papers to Interactive Tools.”
Meet IBM Bob, IBM’s AI-powered development partner that helps developers, researchers, and PhD students accelerate innovation through AI-assisted coding, code analysis, technical planning, documentation, and automation. It enables users to quickly understand complex codebases, explore ideas, generate technical artifacts, and focus more on research and problem-solving rather than repetitive tasks.
What to expect
In this interactive online workshop, IBM experts will show you how to streamline your workflow and take an idea from zero to a working tool. Then, you’ll try it yourself in one of two hands-on tracks using real scientific data from the historic LIGO gravitational wave discovery:
Track 1: Build interactive tools with no coding
Turn an idea into a functional tool just by describing what you need. You’ll have Bob generate a chirp spectrogram of LIGO strain data, a side-by-side view of both detectors, and even convert the gravitational signal into audio, letting you actually hear two black holes colliding from 1.3 billion years ago.
Track 2: Learn from papers
Skip the struggle of decoding dense methodologies. You’ll hand Bob the original LIGO discovery paper, have it break down complex concepts like matched filtering and chirp waveforms in plain language, and watch it generate an interactive visualization of the black holes spiraling together in real time.
Meet the IBM speakers
Faisal Alshawan is a Software Engineer at IBM specializing in building scalable, enterprise-grade systems. His work focuses on IBM Maximo, driving new AI integration and adoption across asset lifecycle management.
Ahmed Alsinan is a software engineer leading the Guardrails Manager solution for watsonx.governance, with a focus on AI safety, responsibility, and trust.
Anas Hashim is a Software Engineer on IBM Bob. He has contributed across multiple areas of Project Bob, including developing agentic loop workflows, building agentic tools, designing backend infrastructure for Bob users, and developing UI interfaces within the Bob IDE.
