“World famous neurosurgeon and winner of the Lasker and Breathrough Awards in 2014, Professor Alim Benabid, will reveal to us how he has developed his revolutionary techniques to offer relief to patients suffering from movement disorders and intractable pain. These techniques are at the interface of neurology, nanotechnologies and computer science. Profesor Benabid will guide us thorough a fascinating journey in the secrets of the brain”, Dean Pierre Magistretti.
New developments in the field of neurotechnology are implemented at Clinatec, a multidisciplinary research institute devoted to micronanotechnology-based innovation in diagnosis and treatment in Medicine. This lecture is part of the 2015 International Brain Awareness Week. While little progress has been made over the last two decades in developing new drugs for brain diseases, neurotechnology approaches such as deep brain stimulations have radically improved the quality of life of thousands of patients, in particular of those which with movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease.
Refreshments will be served from 3.30 pm.
Enrichment in the Spring will run from Friday, March 20 to Saturday, March 28 and will feature three days of core events and one week of community events, with the main theme being the human brain and mind.
