The Arts Office would like to welcome community members who are interested in participating in our three community music groups – the Orchestra, the Chorus, and the Angklung Ensemble. Interested community members should schedule an informal interview by contacting the Arts Office.
The Orchestra is made up of individuals who have had previous experience playing a musical instrument; a string instrument (violin, viola, cello, or bass) or a wind / brass instrument (flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, or trumpet). The Orchestra meets on Monday evenings from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. in the Auditorium (building 20). Rehearsals will commence on Monday, September 28. Eduardo Regula, the MYP music teacher at the Gardens Secondary School (GSS), will conduct the Orchestra this season.
The Chorus consists of community members who have some previous knowledge of music reading; however, the main objective is the enjoyment of singing in an ensemble. The Chorus rehearses on Tuesday evenings from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. in the large rehearsal room in the Auditorium (building 20). Rehearsals begin on Tuesday, September 15. Robert Moore will be the conductor and Mary Moore accompanist.
The Angklung is a traditional Indonesian musical instrument made of bamboo tubes that are attached to a frame. Each member of the ensemble is responsible for one or two pitches. By playing all the notes together, the ensemble creates a complete song with harmonies. All musical levels are welcome; it requires only teamwork to achieve a meaningful musical experience. The Ensemble will rehearse on Sunday evenings from 7:15 – 8:30 p.m in the Auditorium (building 20). Rehearsals begin this Sunday, September 6.
All three groups will prepare for this semester’s Community Concert, scheduled for Monday, November 9. For more information about the Orchestra, Chorus, or the Angklung Ensemble, please send an email to the Arts Office.
