KAUST IT would like to remind all researchers, faculty, students, and staff using Apple devices to ensure their Macs are running a supported version of macOS.
With the recent release of macOS 27 (Golden Gate), Apple has ended security support for macOS Sonoma (14.x) and all earlier versions. Devices running unsupported operating systems no longer receive security updates, leaving them increasingly vulnerable to security risks and compatibility issues.
Action Required by October 31
Check your macOS version:
- Click the Apple menu.
- Select System Settings.
- Navigate to General > Software Update.
If your device is running macOS Sonoma (14.x) or earlier, please upgrade to a supported version as soon as possible (view the macOS upgrade guide)

- macOS Tahoe 26
Updating your device helps ensure:
- Continued access to critical security updates.
- Improved system stability and performance.
- Compatibility with Microsoft 365 and other KAUST-supported applications and services.
Important Information

- Devices running unsupported macOS versions may become vulnerable to unpatched security risks.
- Devices that remain on unsupported operating systems after October 31 may have their access to KAUST services restricted to help protect the wider university network.
