This Friday, April 18, 2014 The KAUST School (TKS), with the support of KAUST Recreation, will be hosting a community softball event aimed at sparking interest for the sport and providing TKS students with an opportunity to compete in their chosen sport. There will be five community teams and two visiting teams participating in this full day event.
The tournament begins at 8:00 a.m. and culminates with the final at 4:15 p.m. All games will be played at the softball field located at Thuwal Park (just north of the Island Recreation Center on the Safaa Island peninsula).
Aside from the excitement of the games, there will be T-Ball/Coach Pitch clinic for the younger kids (ages 4 – 9) from 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. as a way of introducing the sport to the community. Experienced parents and coaches from the community will be working with the kids on a side field to introduce some skills and to play some lead-up games. More fun for the young ones begin later in the day with the bouncy castle set up on a side field.
What would a community softball tournament be without a community run concessions stand? TKS band School of Rock will be supporting the event with your typical ballpark food and beverage offerings. Additionally, they will be playing a selection of sets to help create a great atmosphere.
