  • Your Iqama or Saudi National ID

Who should get the flu vaccine

All KAUST residents, employees and KAUST contractor workforce are eligible for the vaccine, but it is strongly recommended for the following groups:

  • Pregnant women
  • Individuals over 65 years
  • Children aged 6 months and above
  • People with chronic diseases (e.g. asthma or diabetes) or a weak or low immune system
  • Registered carers and healthcare workers

Please consult a doctor before vaccination if you:

  • Have a severe egg allergy
  • Have had a serious allergic reaction to a previous flu vaccine
  • Have a history of Guillain–Barré Syndrome after vaccination

Flu vaccine for children

Children under 6 months are not eligible for the flu vaccine, as it is not approved for this age group.

Some children aged 6 months to 8 years may require two doses of the flu vaccine:

  • the first dose helps ‘prime’ the immune system
  • the second dose (given 28 days later) provides full immune protection
  • If your child is being vaccinated for the first time, or has previously received only one dose, they should receive two doses this time.
  • If your child has already received two doses in a previous season, they only need one dose now.
  • Please book a regular appointment at KAUST Health 28 days after the first dose if required.
