Winter Enrichment Program (WEP) 2016: Call for Proposals

The Winter Enrichment Program returns in 2016 from January 10 – 21, and we need your inspired ideas!

The theme for WEP 2016 is “Climate change and sustainability.” Activities will be organized into four “threads,” inspired by Aristotle’s classical elements. The analogies in a WEP context would be:

  • Air = CO2
  • Earth = salinization and other soil degradation issues
  • Fire = energy
  • Water = sea

Proposals that fall under a different topic will be also be considered. Everyone is invited to submit.

Distinguished experts and leaders from the University, the region, and the world are invited to increase our intellectual horizons and stretch our collective imaginations.

If you are a student, alumnus, postdoctoral fellow, research scientist, faculty, staff, community member, or self-directed group with a great idea for WEP, then we encourage you to submit your proposal. Choose the format of your offering: keynote lecture, lecture, course, seminar, workshop, field trip, or event. A proposal will have to fit into the appropriate category: academic, skills, entrepreneurial, cultural, or recreational.

WEP offerings range from credited courses such as data science and big data analytics and a workshop on E-textiles to non-credited activities such as recreational events. New students are required to attend WEP 2016 and in particular the credited events and keynotes to be able to graduate.

We seek proposals aimed at developing interdisciplinary activities to create a sense of community at KAUST. Proposals should not be specialized symposia or classes that could be offered during the academic year to specific groups of students.

Don’t miss this call for proposals as there will only be one call for proposals for the 2016 enrichment programs. Read the guidelines and submit your proposals here by April 30, 2015.

The WEP Committee encourages applicants to notify speakers/instructors that they have been recommended to be a part of WEP 2016.

Dates and deadlines:

  • Deadline for proposal submissions: April 30, 2015
  • Proposal review: May/June 2015
  • Notifications to applicants: July 2015
  • Invitation letters to speakers: during summer
