What’s happening this afternoon at WEP 2021?

LIVE VIRTUAL VISIT AT CERN — 1:30 – 2:30 PM
Connecting With the Biggest Scientific Instrument Ever Built
With Dr. Thibaut Lery, Strategic Planning Director at KAUST
Be part of the live virtual visit here (no registration needed)

Explore in this interactive live visit an engineering marvel; the experimental site of the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) detector at CERN. CMS scientists will interact virtually and explain the physics and technology behind the experiment and answer your questions.Home of the birth of the Web in 1989, the CERN, a European research organization that operates the largest particle physics laboratory in the world, has hosted several Nobel prize winners (e.g. Rubia in 1984, Charpak in 1992, Higgs and Englert in 2013).The CMS experiment is one of two large general-purpose particle physics detectors built on the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. The CMS experiment’s goal is to investigate a wide range of physics, including the search for the Higgs boson, extra dimensions, and particles that could make up the dark matter by using extreme computing, large data analysis, new materials and AI.Watch a teaser of this virtual exhibit:

MONITORING AND MITIGATING THREATS — 1:30 – 2:30 PM
