Traffic Light Activation

As part of the ongoing road safety program at KAUST, Community Services will be adjusting the single color flashing traffic lights located at the junction of Unity and Discovery Boulevard (by the Fire Station) to full, three-color traffic signals on Friday, February 14.

We ask all road users (in cars, scooters, bicycles, etc.) to take extra caution when approaching this intersection and to follow the three color mode (red, yellow, green) signals appropriately.

Finally! This was the worse intersection at KAUST. No matter if you are a pedestrian, hardly anyone lets you cross. There should have been from the beginning either active traffic lights or a roundabout….but better late than never!

This will hopefully improve the flow of cross traffic during peak times. I’m especially glad that is mentioned that ALL road users should obey these traffic rules since many bicycle users seem to think traffic lights and especially stop signs don’t apply to them

I do not know why you would do this, as the traffic flow on campus is well below a threshold that is acceptable for stop signs (except maybe during one hour around the start and end of business), but you absolutely need to place signs up so that people notice. I have twice now seen people not see the change already!
(for emphasis) PUT UP SIGNS WARNING PEOPLE OF THE CHANGE!!!

Hello,

Are the pedestrian lights active ? I waited for a few minutes and it was still red…

Indeed, I just passed by and at least one car thought it was flashing when it was just red!
