Traffic & Flood Pilot Project Sensor Testing

This week, Professor Christian Claudel and his team are installing 40 traffic and flood sensors, adding to the initial sensors installed around campus in 2011. Read more about this pilot project from the cover story of the November 2011 Beacon.

These new sensors will be utilized to conduct a temporary test, lasting a few days. If you notice one of the sensor nodes at various deployment locations around campus (see map below), please do not disturb the equipment.

The sensor nodes themselves are harmless, only transmitting radio waves on the 2.4 GHz band (same as WiFi and Bluetooth). They should not interfere with WiFi or Bluetooth equipment, but may interfere with IEEE 802.15.4 or Zigbee equipment operating on Channel F.
