Graduate Affairs is sponsoring three must-see events this week – two films and one exhibition. All events are part of Orientation 2014.
Chasing Ice
Chasing Ice is the story of one man’s mission to change the tide of history by gathering undeniable evidence of climate change. Using time-lapse cameras, his videos compress years into seconds and capture ancient mountains of ice in motion, as they disappear at a breathtaking rate. Chasing Ice has won over 30 awards at film festivals around the world.

Into the Empty Quarter
Inspired by the travels of Wilfred Thesiger, adventurers Alastair Humphreys and Leon McCarron attempt a journey of their own into the Arabian Peninsula’s famous Empty Quarter. Experience the heat, the hunger and thirst, the dunes and the plains, the local hospitality, the silence and the nights filled with stars. Like Thesiger, Alastair and Leon discovered all of this on their 1000 mile trek pulling a cart (filled with 300kg of supplies) across the desolate land. Into the Empty Quarter is a very modern telling of a classic travel story.
