By Prof. Mani Sarathy
Wednesday, March 28
4:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Building 3, Room 5209
Recent research in neuroscience and psychology has advanced our understanding of brain physiology, mental processes, and human behavior. What makes us happy? What makes us sad? Why do we behave in certain ways? Together we will explore several scientific discoveries made possible by advances in brain imaging, and ponder their implications on self-perception. While these musings will be intellectually stimulating, Prof. Mani will also discuss how an objective observation of one’s own brain and mind can yield fascinating discoveries of one-self. He will also convey his thoughts on how experiences gained during self-observation can help-alter human behavior.
Upcoming talks:
- April 24 – “Burning with Desire – On Artists and Scientists, from Leonardo Da Vinci till now” – Solkem N’Gangbet
- May 15 – “The Beauty and Purpose of Plant Geometry” – Postdoc Magdalena Julkowska
About the Science Crossroads Initiative:
Under the umbrella of the BESE division, the Science Crossroads Initiative aims to introduce the KAUST community to a variety of contemporary topics found at the intersection of science and other disciplines, such as philosophy, history, and the arts. Through seminars and other activities, SCI aims to encourage thinking beyond one’s personal areas of expertise and nourish curiosity about how science ventures work and what these mean in our society.
