Sci Café: World Food Day

October 16, 2025
2:00 – 3:00 p.m.
Auditorium between Building 2 and 3

On October 16, the Center of Excellence for Sustainable Food Security will host a special campus program to mark World Food Day, the UN’s annual event highlighting the importance of food security and the right to safe, nutritious, and affordable food for all. This is a great opportunity for researchers, students, and community members to come together, learn, and explore how innovation can help build stronger and more sustainable food systems.

We are delighted to welcome Dr. Rebecca Nelson, professor at Cornell University and internationally recognized for her work on crop disease resistance and global food security. We are also honored to host Dr. Robert Freling, Executive Director of the Solar Electric Light Fund, who has led the installation of over 650 solar energy systems in 25 countries and is widely regarded as a leading authority on energy poverty and sustainable development.

Their seminars will be followed by a Sci Café featuring Dr. Rebecca Nelson and Dr. Robert Freling together with KAUST professors Fernando Maestre and Himanshu Mishra, offering an engaging discussion on the future of food.

We invite you to join us for this special day of learning and dialogue on food security.
