Saudi National Day: KAUST and Thuwal Come Together to Celebrate

We extend our gratitude to all KAUST community members who joined us to commemorate Saudi National Day on Monday, September 23!

This year, KAUST took the festivities to the Thuwal Corniche, celebrating Saudi culture, food and art with our neighbors. The family-friendly gathering was filled with excitement, featuring folk parades, live music, face painting, henna art and a variety of games. Vendors offered a delightful selection of Arabian delicacies and popular street foods.

Dressed in traditional Saudi attire, KAUST President Sir Edward Byrne AC FMedSci participated in the event alongside his wife Melissa, expressing joy in acknowledging the Kingdom’s progress and shared vision. Sir Edward emphasized that KAUST’s commitment to innovation and education aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, highlighting the honor of contributing to this national mission.

He also participated in a cake-cutting ceremony at Al Khozama Hotel & Residences KAUST to mark the occasion. Each year, Saudi National Day recognizes the anniversary of the Kingdom’s unification under King Abdulaziz ibn Saud in 1932.
