Remington to join KAUST as TKS Director

Following Leny de Ruijter’s announcement that she would retire at the end of the 2018/2019 school year, we conducted a worldwide search for her successor.

On behalf of the TKS Board of Education, I am delighted to inform you that Dr. Michelle Remington, currently associate superintendent at the American School of Dubai, will join KAUST in August 2019 as the director of the KAUST School

Remington received her B.A. in international studies and Spanish and her M.A. in teaching from Willamette University in Oregon, USA. She received her Ph.D. in educational administration from the University of Southern Mississippi. She has over twenty years experience as an educator beginning with teaching 6th grade in Saipan and 6th grade and IB English in Colegio Internacional de Caracas, Venezuela.

She served as both assistant principal and PK-12 principal at the Colegio Internacional Puerto La Cruz, also in Venezuela. She has spent the last 12 years in the Middle East, first at the American Community School of Abu Dhabi, an IB school, where she served as high school principal and also as interim superintendent. She is currently at the American School of Dubai where she has served as high school principal and as associate superintendent.

Remington brings a love for research, data-driven decision making, and community involvement to her leadership roles. She has a strong reputation internationally for her work with organizations such as NESA (Near East South Asia Council of Overseas Schools).

We look forward to welcoming Michelle, her husband Jesse, and their three children to KAUST next year and to working with her and Leny during the transition period.

Chair, TKS Board of Education
