After the success of the proposal writing sessions, the Office of Research Services (ORS) is pleased to offer more in-depth support to faculty for managing the research projects they have been awarded, both from private and public sponsors.
The Researcher’s Toolkit for Contracts
Monday, May 21, 2012 2:30 – 3:30 p.m.
Al-Jazri Building West (Building 4), level 5 Conference Room, room 5209 (seaside)
Research agreements covering such projects can easily be several dozen pages long. Nobody expects the faculty to read the whole agreement and remember what is in it. But, what are the essential parts of a contract you should know about? What is the procedure for publishing an article? What information is considered confidential? What kind of information can you not put in a presentation? Who actually owns your inventions and discoveries? What can you do with them? What are the pros and cons of having subcontractors? What do you need to do if a collaborator is not performing to accepted standards? How do you resolve arguments?
Linda Polik, ORS Awards and Contracts Specialist, will provide an overview of the most common issues and pitfalls in research contracts. The session is specifically aimed at contractual issues; there will be a follow-on session on financial issues in externally-funded research projects the following week. The contracts session is aimed at faculty, however, researchers involved in managing or working on research projects with external collaborators or sponsors would also benefit from attending.
Please confirm your attendance by emailing Hessa.Alodwane@kaust.edu.sa.
