Message from President Chameau

Beginning of the New Academic Year

Dear KAUST Community,

On this first day of KAUST’s fifth academic year, I would like to wish all of our new and returning students, faculty, staff, and community a successful and prosperous 2013/14 year.

As you know, this also marks a new beginning for Carol and me. We have found our first months at KAUST very exciting and we have very much enjoyed meeting so many of you. I express my thanks to all who have made us feel so welcomed and a part of the KAUST community. I look forward to meeting many more of you over the coming year.

For the past two weeks, I had the pleasure of joining the incoming new graduate students at a number of the orientation events and discussions. I have been impressed by both the enthusiasm and the diversity of the new student cohort – living proof of KAUST’s values.

As we embark on this next year, I encourage both those who are new and those returning to make the most of our unique community learning environment. This is one of the most special traits of our University and a vital part of realizing its full potential.

In this regard, I look forward to seeing you all at the Academic Convocation on Tuesday, September 3. At Convocation, I will give a brief address and we will also hear from student and faculty representatives as we launch the new academic year together.

Yours in discovery,
Jean-Lou Chameau
