Keep Your House Secure During Vacation

If you are planning vacation leave for the summer break, here are a few simple tips to keep your house in good condition and protect your valuables while you’re away:

  • Assign a caretaker for your housing unit by completing the Caretaker Form and sending it to Housing (housing@kaust.edu.sa).
  • Close (shut off) the water valves underneath your kitchen and bathroom sinks, and shut off the flexible hose in the bathrooms to ensure no water leaks occur from the internal plumbing system.
  • Switch off the electrical circuit breaker for the water heater inside the DB panel board to prevent excessive temperature and pressure build-up in the water heater tank.
  • Leave the air conditioner on auto and set it to a minimal temperature of 23C. This will help avoid condensation and prevent the formation of any mold.
  • Floor drains should be left uncovered in all wet areas (toilets, kitchen, wash room, laundry room, and, if your house has one, the water heater room). This will prevent flooding if a water leak occurs.
  • All doors and windows should be kept closed to avoid the buildup of any condensation. Please ensure that the roof access (for Island and Gardens units) is locked and secure.
  • Please make the necessary arrangements for the upkeep and maintenance of your backyard during your absence, as required per clause 14 of the Housing Agreement. To make these arrangements, you can call 959 or Gardening at 8085480, or send an e-mail to gardening@kaust.edu.sa

For any clarifications, please contact Housing at 808-6555 or email housing@kaust.edu.sa. You may contact Maintenance via the KAUST Helpdesk by dialing 959.

Remember, protecting your possessions and your rented unit is your responsibility, and your cooperation is highly appreciated.
