KAUST Smart – AI Garage: Session 1 – Library Challenge

Thursday, February 20, 2020
12:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Building 5, level 5, room 5220

Join other KAUST AI enthusiasts to solve data-driven challenges that applies to real KAUST experiences. We are now ready to start working on the first challenge. The challenge will be introduced by Jose Martin Cuesta, who is a system specialist in the library.

Session Theme: Library Challenge

The University Library has two smart gates that allow analyzing library traffic patterns via integrated patron counter. We create visual reports based on the data to report on the busiest times in the building and assist the Library in decision making. Improved accuracy would lead to more reliable reports and better-informed decisions.

What would the library value most in a solution?

  1. Improved accuracy
  2. Resilience/low maintenance
  3. Creates data that is easy to parse and process automatically

The data for this challenge comes in the form of short videos. The camera is perpendicular to the floor and a possible strategy is to identify the heads in the frames and track their movements exiting or entering the gate. The link to download this training set will be shared in the calendar invite that you will receive after you have registered for the challenge.
