KAUST is delighted to announce that Professor Suzana Nunes, Chemical and Environmental Science and Engineering, has been elected as a member of the World Academy of Sciences.
She was selected for her outstanding achievements in chemistry, particularly in polymeric materials and membranes, which have advanced the pharmaceutical and chemical industries. The Academy further noted how her innovations align with sustainability targets. Another significant factor in her selection was her dedication to educating and training scientists in Saudi Arabia, Brazil and Germany.
The Academy collaborates closely with scientists, scientific organizations, governments, educational institutions and funding bodies to advance science and sustainable growth, addressing major challenges in developing countries.
As a member of the Academy, Nunes aims to further contribute to education in the Global South, particularly in chemistry and sustainability, while advocating for the role of women in STEM.
