KAUST Portfolio Company: Libelium supports The Line’s sustainable development at NEOM

Libelium, which acquired KAUST spin-in HOPU in 2022, is using AI-powered air-quality monitoring solutions to help ensure NEOM’s revolutionary linear metropolis project, The Line, remains sustainable. By employing advanced Internet of Things (IoT) sensors, satellite observations, the CHIMERE chemical transport model, and pollution-source algorithms, Libelium empowers developers to manage and reduce construction-related pollution by identifying origins.

Before its merger with Libelium, HOPU participated in KAUST’s inaugural three-month Destination Deep Tech spin-in program, designed to bring leading-edge global startups to the Kingdom for development of deep-technology innovations. With investments and support, HOPU proved itself to be a valued KAUST portfolio company.

Now operating under the Libelium banner, its collaboration with NEOM demonstrates a clear commitment to advancing environmental standards in urban development, showcasing the value of KAUST-nurtured research and technology. Such innovations ensure sustainable construction practices while also enhancing decision-making and resource management that are essential to the Saudi economy’s future.
