KAUST HPC Add-on to ParaView

Large Data Visualization Made Easier

IT Research Computing and the KAUST Visualization Laboratory (KVL) are pleased to announce the release of the KAUST HPC add-on to ParaView. ParaView is a data analysis and visualization application that can be used to analyze extremely large datasets. The KAUST HPC add-on makes it possible to visualize data on a local Linux, Windows or Mac computer while you are processing it on one of the Noor clusters.

ParaView users can build visualizations to analyze their data using qualitative and quantitative techniques. Data exploration in ParaView can be performed via batch processing or interactively in 3D. The program was developed to analyze extremely large datasets using distributed memory computing resources.

With the HPC add-on, time-consuming data analysis is performed on the cluster and the visualization is streamed to the local computer. Users can also implement in-situ analysis with ParaView, enabling increased performance and resolution for I/O bound simulations.

Information on the installation of ParaView and usage of the HPC add-on on the Noor clusters can be found on the IT Research Computing website.

For information on using ParaView for your scientific workflows, in-situ analysis and visualization needs, please contact KVL at kvlinfo@kaust.edu.sa. The KVL will offer a series of ParaView training sessions in the upcoming months.

ParaView is also available on the Cray XC40 supercomputer Shaheen II, and the KAUST Supercomputing Laboratory (KSL) and KVL teams are working to extend the HPC add-on to work on the system. For more information on getting access to the Cray XC40 supercomputer Shaheen II, visit the KSL website.
